How Committed Are You Really?

Today is my 13th wedding anniversary!

As I thought about the commitment of marriage and all that that means, I started to consider other things we say we are committed to.

Every year, thousands of high school athletes commit to attend a specific university. They sit at a table in front of a big banner with their school of choice’s logo and sign on the dotted line saying THAT is the school they will attend.

People commit to lose weight, get out of debt, be nicer to their spouse, or spend more time with their children.

But, what does all that mean?

When You Think You Need Time to Relax

A few weeks ago I had an amazing opportunity.

One morning I found myself with a few free hours of nothing on my schedule. I had no dishes to wash, clothes to launder, lawn to mow, or floors to vacuum. I had some time to relax!

Sounds awesome, right? Well, it was a pretty odd situation for me. That sort of free time isn’t something I typically have a lot of.

But, I learned a valuable lesson that morning.

Why the Mountaintop Ain’t All It’s Cracked Up to Be

Everybody is always seeking that mountaintop experience.

So many people watch awards shows to see their favorite movie actor, TV beauty, or singer achieve the pinnacle of success. Every March I fight back a little tear as “One Shining Moment” plays and the new NCAA basketball champs are crowned.

Whether it’s winning an Oscar, getting a platinum album, or putting on a championship ring, most people have an ultimate goal – a mountaintop – they are trying to reach.

What about you?

Why You Should Appreciate the Help

Are you one of those people who doesn’t always know how to appreciate the help?

Do you hate to ask anybody to help you? Would you rather do just about anything yourself than rely on someone else to help you do it? After all, you don’t want to bother anybody.

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, welcome to the club. I am the president.

I’m not necessarily proud of it, but too often that’s me.

I Don’t Care How You Get There – Just Get There

Have you ever set a goal that was really hard to achieve?

First of all, I really hope you have. But, that’s not the point for now.

Have you looked at that goal and thought, “How am I going to get there?”

If so, I’ve got good news. And a little story to share! (more…)
