Have you ever wanted to change your life?
Maybe that sounds a bit dramatic, so let me rephrase. Have you ever wanted to change something about your life? I’d venture to guess that just about every one of us would say we have. Otherwise, we’ve pretty much given up.
Now the next question is – do you want to change your life now?
Is there something you see when you take inventory of where you are that you want to be different?
It could be anything from losing a few pounds, getting out of debt, or improving your marriage to considering a brand new career or going back to school.
What is it?
Really think about that for just a second…what is it you want to change?
Now for an even deeper question… Do you really believe you can change it?
Do you have any hope that things can get better?
So, what do you think? Do you feel like you can have what you want? And, do you believe that things will turn out for the best?
Maybe you believe that things are the way they are, and there isn’t much you can do about. You truly feel like there’s nothing you can do to change your life for the better, so you’re sitting around waiting for things to get better on their own.
If that’s where you are right now, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news first. Chances are pretty high that things won’t change on their own.
You can keep sitting around waiting for whatever it is to get better, but things just usually get worse while you do that. You don’t get stronger, healthier, or more active by wishing you felt better and had more energy. Those changes only happen when you choose to do something and change.
You don’t get out of debt by wishing you’d get a raise or win the lottery. Getting out of debt happens when you establish a plan to take your debts out one-by-one and stick to it – no matter how long it takes.
But, remember there is good news, too.
THERE IS HOPE! You CAN do something and be the change agent in your own life.
Remember the elementary school science experiment where you poured baking soda into vinegar? When those two ingredients combine, they create a giant foamy volcano!
If you don’t pour the baking soda into the vinegar, nothing happens. The vinegar just sits there – taking up space and smelling up the place. You can watch it all day and wish you had the chance to see a volcano, but it just ain’t gonna happen.
Our lives are the same way.
If we just keep waiting for things to get better, nothing happens. But, if we choose to do something – to mix the ingredients – we’re able to start a reaction.
You can’t guarantee things will work out just as you planned, but there is hope that change is possible.
Do you have hope that you can change your life?
If you tend to believe, “That’s just how things are,” I want to ask you a question.
What could you do right now to make things worse?
You could worsen your health by eating an entire pizza and spending the whole day on the couch binge watching Netflix. Your issues with debt can be made worse real quick by buying a new car you can’t afford. Or, go spread some rumors and see how that works out for your friendship.
So, if you can do something to make things worse…you can absolutely make things better!
But, will you?
You can change your life right now if you have hope that change is possible and choose to act.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not disillusioned that positive thinking makes everything perfect. As Zig Ziglar says in Born to Win,
“Positive thinking won’t allow you to do anything, but it will allow you to do everything better than negative thinking will…You will always live down to your negative expectations.”
So, if you want to change your life, start with what you believe is possible. Start by making a list of all the small things you can do to make the change you want.
And then get to mixing!
Small steps today lead to big wins tomorrow!
