I am a firm believer in recovery nutrition, especially recovery drinks!
Multiple studies show that consuming the right amount of carbs, proteins, and electrolytes within 15 minutes following exercise plays a huge factor in how sore you are and how effective your training is the next day.
You can restore the nutritional components used during exercise with food or drinks, but my stomach is not always a huge fan of eating things right after a run, ride, or workout, so being able to drink a beverage that has all the pertinent components is awesome for me!
I tried a few variations of this Healthy Delicious Blueberry Muffins recipe before I got it how I wanted it. I think I’ve settled on this recipe. The almond meal and gluten-free flour give it a little bit lower glycemic index (Fancy words that mean they shouldn’t spike your blood sugar, and you shouldn’t get hungry as quickly after eating them.), so these are great for a mid-morning snack. They can be refrigerated and enjoyed for 4-5 (more…)
Don’t let the name fool you! I was bit little skeptical myself about this recipe, but I HAD to try it. And, I’m sure glad I did. This stuff is GOOD! They do include some extremely healthy ingredients, good fats, and no refined sugar; however, they still have enough fat and calories to taste AMAZING! The only problem I have with these bars is that they are pretty small, and I could easily eat the whole pan. But, alas, we (more…)
5 Ingredient Protein Bars pack a punch! They are fairly high in calories, but with the filling protein, they make a geat snack when it might be a while until your next meal.
Because of the oats and protein, these bars are also pretty heavy, so you probably don’t want to eat them before a workout.
5 Ingredient Protein Bars taste a little bit like those chocolate oatmeal no bake cookies, too!! (more…)
