SmoothieI found this Strawberry Almond Smoothie recipe when my husband and I did our 10-Day Detox (Dr. Mark Hyman) last year. During that process I found that I fair much better with bulk for breakfast, but my husband still drinks his every morning. This recipe is made with frozen strawberries, but I always made mine with blueberries. I’m sure any berry-type fruit would work just fine.

This smoothie has a lot of the good, healthy fats to get things moving and to give you energy to start the day.

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp raw almond butter (grocery stores that sell bulk items often have a place to grind your own)
3 raw walnuts (if you soak them in water overnight, it will activate the enzymes – we don’t do this)
1 Cup water
1/2 Cup fresh or frozen strawberries (frozen make it even more “smoothie-ish”)
1/4 avocado
1/2 tsp fresh gingerroot, peeled
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp flaxseed
2-3 ice cubes, depending on how cold and thick you want it

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until desired smoothness achieved. We have a Ninja Pro 900 Watts that works amazingly! You just blend the smoothie right in the cup.
